National Climate Change and Health Organizations

Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health

An organization of multiple medical societies uniting their members in raising awareness about the health effects of climate change, promoting workplace sustainability, and advocating for policy to address climate change. The Medical Society Consortium holds annual meetings and offersCME and webinars, and published a comprehensive report on the health effects of climate change in March 2017.

Health Care Without Harm

A global organization dedicated to “transform[ing] health care worldwide so that it reduces its environmental footprint, becomes a community anchor for sustainability and a leader in the global movement for environmental health and justice”. The Climate and Health program promotes climate-smart health care and reframing the public debate on climate change as a public health issue, and the website provides informational resources and links to health profession-specific groups:

Nurses Climate Challenge

Nursing consistently tops Gallup polls as the most trusted profession, and the Nurses Climate Challenge mobilizes these trusted health professionals to educate other health professionals on the health impacts of climate change. Upon signing up for the challenge, Nurse Climate Champions have free access to comprehensive resources to use to host educational events, and join a network of health professionals across the country dedicated to promoting climate solutions. Physician Network

A national network of physicians dedicated to promoting climate-smart health care through mitigation, resilience, and leadership. The website provides a number of helpful informational resources and networking opportunities for physicians interested in promoting sustainability in the workplace and doing advocacy work. Practice Greenhealth

A non-profit membership organization that promotes sustainability at health care centers through practical solutions such as eliminating mercury, reducing and recycling solid waste, reducing regulated and chemical waste, reducing energy and water consumption, creating healing environments, and establishing green purchasing policies.

Physicians for Social Responsibility

A national organization that mobilizes physicians and health professionals to advocate for climate solutions and against nuclear weapons. PSR’s environment and health arm educates health professionals about the health impacts of climate change and encourages them to further educate the public and lobby policymakers to support clean and renewable energy sources and oppose fracking.
