The healthcare sector is responsible for 8.5% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, and therefore has an important role to play in addressing emissions and moving towards climate resilience. In Minnesota, local healthcare systems and the people working within them are increasingly on the frontlines of triaging disasters and health conditions linked to climate change.
That’s why a growing majority of U.S. healthcare workers want their employers to address climate change and feel doing so aligns with their organizations’ missions. People working within healthcare systems are also uniquely positioned to educate their colleagues and system leaders about the benefits of implementing measurable sustainable practices and climate resilience strategies.
HPHC’s Advancing Resilient and Climate-ready Healthcare (ARCH) committee is a volunteer team of health professionals leading measurable sustainability and climate resilience efforts within Minnesota’s health systems.
Bringing together interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, emergency preparedness leaders, sustainability experts, and community advocates like you, ARCH is actively strengthening climate resilience across Minnesota’s healthcare sector.
As climate change intensifies in Minnesota, healthcare professionals, emergency preparedness leaders, and sustainability experts aren’t waiting for change — they’re creating it, and you can join the effort.
The ARCH committee hosts online monthly meetings along with several in-person gatherings led by co-facilitators, Jo Bjorgaard, DNP, RN, PHN, CSSBB, and Melissa Thone, DNP, MPH, RN, PHN, CIC. The ARCH committee is open to a wide variety of healthcare, emergency preparedness, and sustainability professionals located across the state. There’s room for your skills, interests, and training background!
Created by members of the ARCH committee, this handbook provides actionable strategies and tools for building capacity across healthcare systems.
